Did you know that Minnesota residents can fish without a fishing license in most Minnesota State parks, including ice fishing? As long as the body of water does not require a trout stamp and you are fishing from shore or wading in water within the state park, no fishing license is required. See the Minnesota DNR web site for more information. A vehicle permit is required to enter a Minnesota state park ($5/day or $25/annual permit). In addition to FREE fishing, some state parks offer use of FREE fishing kits for residents to borrow, which includes a rod, reel and a stocked tackle box. Click here for a full listing of which state parks offer FREE loaner equipment. For tips and tricks about fishing in a state park or even how to make your own pole check out the Minnesota DNR web site.
