With over 300 participating artists and more than 20,000 visitors, the St. Paul Art Crawl has become a model arts event that has been imitated in cities across the country. Over the years the Art Crawl has evolved from a fun weekend art event to a framework for creating and fostering important, interdependent relationships between the arts community and the city itself. Hosted by the St. Paul Art Collective, the Art Crawl has given back to both sides. The Collective and its member artists receive support from residents, businesses and local government to host this bi-annual event. In return, St. Paul has a vibrant and energetic art community that actively contributes to the greater Twin Cities culture. This spring’s event will include six locations: Lowertown, Downtown, West Side, Midway, Grand Hill area and East Side. For a full catalog schedule – click here. The Art Crawl will take place Friday, April 24, 6-10 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 12-8 p.m. and Sunday, April 26, 12-5 p.m.
In addition to viewing artwork, the Schmidt Artist Lofts on West 7th has many other events taking place including food, music, lectures and an auction. Interested in painting a mural, drop in anytime at the Brew House Paint Studio (tunnel level) and follow a pre-designed layout by adding anything from one swoosh to an entire portion. All ages welcome. In addition you can paint your own mini-canvas to take home (a small fee for the canvas will be charged.) On Saturday, 6:30-10 p.m, enjoy a live art auction at the Brew House Club Room. Or learn how to see the world as an artist and capture moments using the camera in your pocket or purse or your mobile phone. Seminars held Friday at 8:30, Saturday and Sunday at 12:30 at the Pig’s Eye Gallery. For a list of all events happening at the Schmidt Artist Lofts – click here.
